And a name comes forth

I recently tweeted (like today) that I had two chapters done in my work in progress (tentatively titled Girl, Thief) but that I still didn’t have a name for the main character.  I know this character very well, as I’ve been outlining and stewing and generally not writing about her for a few years now.  But I never had a name that seemed to match the character.

After two hours of dedicated web browsing, I know her first name is Katherine.  Still working on the last name, but that’s a major, if slightly weird, milestone.

Embrace the darkness

“If you are protected from dark things then you have no protection of, knowledge of, or understanding of dark things when they show up.” – Neil Gaiman

Loved this, especially with respect to the Courtship of the Monster Under the Bed.  It can be a fine line. Discernment of where a child is at is important.  But It’s an initiation as well and the tendency, I think, is to over-protect.
